The concert is being sponsored by the Sri Chinmoy Centre, which was founded in 1966 by the Indian visionary Sri Chinmoy. It is a global organisation of individuals dedicated to serving the cause of world harmony.

As a prolific and dynamic artist, poet, musician and athlete Sri Chinmoy demonstrated that each and every field of human betterment can play a vital role in the pursuit of a more harmonious world. Similarly, the Sri Chinmoy Centre continues to host musical, cultural, theatrical and athletic events in over 30 countries around the world, all with the aim of encouraging people to discover their inner potential and realise their dreams.

The activities of the Sri Chinmoy Centre are based on the philosophy that individual happiness is the key ingredient to achieving a more harmonious world. In Sri Chinmoy's own words - "If I can inspire someone, and if that person also can inspire me, then we can do many good things for the betterment of this world". As a youth, Sri Chinmoy spent over 20 years in a spiritual community immersed in the Eastern art of meditation, and upon his arrival in America in 1964 he saw that this knowledge could go hand in hand with the qualities of dynamism and enthusiasm he found in the West. This blend of inner stillness and outer service to humanity was the key behind Sri Chinmoy's multifarious activities, and continues to inspire the members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre today.

The relationship between Boris Purushottama Grebenshikov and the Sri Chinmoy Centre stems from Grebenshikov's deep friendship with poet, musician and meditation teacher Sri Chinmoy. Boris Purushottama Grebenshikov has long been a student of Eastern religion and mysticism, and has translated several Hindu and Buddhist texts for publication in Russian and traveled the Orient widely. The album Fisherman's Songs was recorded in Russia and India with Indian musicians. Grebenshikov met Sri Chinmoy for the first time in February 2006. Sri Chinmoy blessed Boris with the name Purushottama, which translates to "the one who is beyond all limitations".

"As soon as I learned about meditation, it gave me the chance to transform every mundane experience into a great one." Boris recalls. "There is a great silence inside of everybody, the source of all inspiration, of everything. I always prefer to let music speak for itself and then the human puppet has no further words". Among the many activities offered by the Sri Chinmoy Centre are free introductory courses in meditation. In Britain, these courses are offered regularly in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Oxford, Cambridge, York, Ipswich, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Many of the events organised by the Sri Chinmoy Centre are offered to the public free of charge, as we feel that the inner happiness that these events aim to further is in fact the birthright of each and every person, and is not something that anyone should be charged for. It is in this spirit that this upcoming concert is presented to you free of charge.
